Always makes me shake my head like o shit I done did fucked up! There is a reduction in framerate and graphical fidelity when going from screens to VR but then again I am a cave man and could still race Gran Turismo 3 with excitement. The motion sickness was never an issue for me, I actually kinda like the brain scrambling effect I get when I slam into a wall haha. Just get some quality headphones, crank em up, and be amazed at how it transforms your race sessions. Got a lower budget setup with just a chair and a wheel? Not anymore! You're literally in the cockpit and don't need any of the fancy, ridiculously priced gadgetry. It's cheaper than triples if you get a Quest 2 and offers way more immersion. VR without a shadow of a doubt my guy! If you have enough computing power to run it, I can't recommend a better way to race. I would say after AMS2, I’d probably recommend assetto corsa but it’s a bit irritating in VR as you really want some kind of screen to use for the menus, and to only need the headset for driving. Plus I am not a huge fan of their tire model even though it’s hugely improved.īest physics is rFactor 2 but the interface drives me insane. The competitive pressures and costs there are downers. The most polished experience is iRacing, but it’s not the most fun. It’s just hard to tell, but when the sim is working it feels as good as anything I’ve ever played. It’s major shortcomings are that the game is constantly being updated and tweaked so a car that is amazing now may drive awful in a month, and terrible cars will suddenly be good again too. I know I had what I swore felt like straight up hangovers a couple of times the first couple of weeks.Īs a combination of all factors… it’s not the best at any one of them and has some glaring issues with inconsistency. I think half of those sensitive to motion sickness could probably ride it out and get past it becuase it DOES go away for most people, but for some it can quite unpleasant early on. I think the main deciding factor is how much people have invested in their triples and how sensitive they are to motion sickness. All of those problems just sort of fade to irrelevance.

high hardware requirements, cant see your buttons/keyboards, annoying software stack to activate it, cant admire your super realistic racing gear you've bought, motion sickness, hot on your face, a lot of mental fatigue early on as your brain adjusts to it.īut I dont think I could ever go back. usually within a month or two they're all sold on it. I know several guys who were on the fence even after making a big VR investment. I believe if I had some kind of rig (to avoid needing to set-up the wheel and do VR camera center), and a native PCVR headset that I could leave plugged into the PC, this would make the process a lot easier. Leave passthrough, press VR camera re-center button, and playĬan get rid of 4 out of 7 steps without VR :p.Go to passthrough to make sure I'm physically-centered with the wheel and pedals (usually I'm off to the side by a few inches for some reason lol).Placing my G29 wheel on my computer desk (centering it, tightening it down, and plugging it in).Tethering a Link cable to the Quest 2 (plugging it in and velcoring it).

  • Taking the Quest 2 off charge and bringing it to my PC.
  • I don't have a racing rig, so my set-up includes: That's one of my biggest problems currently. The thought of getting my VR headset setup and calibrated often leaves me skipping the rim racing session all together.
